The University's commitment to sustainability has been celebrated with a succession of awards over the last few years.
The important work undertaken by the Sustainability Team was recognised with three awards at the 2015 Green Gown Awards Australasia, including the prestigious Continuous Improvement award for sustainability initiatives across all of the University's operations.
The Furniture and Equipment Re-Use Service was successful in the Facilities and Services category, after saving an estimated $200,000 in charges for waste diverted from landfill and an impressive $3.5m in savings on retail replacement.
Melbourne was also highly commended for Student Engagement for #C15Hack, Australia's biggest green innovation hackathon.
And in the Premier's Sustainability Awards for 2015 the University was recognised for its collaboration with Inner Melbourne Action Plan and the State Government for their work on the Green Growing Guide for Melbourne. The practical guide on the construction of green walls, roofs and facades was selected as the most innovative entry in the Education category.
As the University seeks input on its draft Sustainability Charter, these awards are welcome recognition of the important work already underway across our campuses.
