Sustainability in the Curriculum
"Through information and awareness, but more importantly by building people’s capacity to innovate and implement solutions, education for sustainability is essential to re-orienting the way we live and work and to Australia becoming a sustainable society."
p3, Living Sustainably: The Australian Government’s National Action Plan for Education for Sustainability
Australian Government Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage & the Arts. April 2009
The University of Melbourne recognises its critical role in educating students for a more sustainable world. Key university documents such as the Environmental Policy, the Sustainability Forum Terms of Reference and our Graduate Attributes attest to the University’s resolve towards this goal. External drivers include our commitments through the Talloires Declaration, Universities Australia and Universitas 21.
From 2011, all divisions throughout the University, including faculties and schools are required to develop sustainability targets and objectives and report progress against those as part of the annual business planning process.
