Polystyrene Recycling
Disposal Method: Compactor at Bio21
Process: The EHS Unit ran a Polystyrene recycling trial in 2006/2007. Collection bags were distributed to 10 departments who collect large amounts of polystyrene. Due to the large volumes of polystyrene waste the EHS Unit purchased a compactor, which reduced the volume of polystyrene. The compactor is located in the basement of Bio21. The current process requires individual departments to take their polystyrene waste to the compactor and process it. This will require a short training session: please contact Mike Blake from Bio21 to arrange a suitable time.
An alternative process for collecting polystyrene at the department is currently being investigated. For further info, please contact the EHS Unit.
