Waste Wise Certification

A Waste Wise Organisation

Metropolitan Waste Management Group has approved The University of Melbourne to be certified as a Waste Wise organisation (Bronze level). The University's Waste Wise certification is now current for two years through to February 2011.

Waste Wise is Sustainability Victoria’s leading community and organisational environmental change program. Joining Waste Wise is an important public statement of an organisation’s resolve to reduce waste and become more environmentally sustainable.

More information about Waste Wise is available from Metropolitan Waste Management Group.

Certification - Bronze Level

Waste Wise certification is a tiered certification scheme comprising bronze, silver and gold levels. Bronze certification recognises that the University of Melbourne has been successful in implementing a range of activities to reduce and minimise environmental impacts of its business activities. These have included:

Waste Wise Action Plan

As part of its certification activities for the Waste Wise program, the University has produced a Waste Wise Action Plan, which you can download below:

The Manager, Sustainability, and the EHS Advisers and Managers in the EHS Unit, will be working with staff all over the University to put this plan into action.

The actions identified in the University's Action Plan will contribute to state level objectives identified in the Victorian Government’s ‘Towards Zero Waste’ strategy, which targets diversion of solid waste from landfill. The University is now on track to achieving the Government’s target of 65% diversion by 2014.
