Achieving A Sustainable Campus

Sustainable Traveller Checklist

A sustainable traveller offsets the emissions from air travel.

Whether you are a student or a staff member at University of Melbourne, there are steps we can all take to reduce our impact on the environment as we go about our daily activities.

Use the following checklist for ideas on travelling more sustainably.

A Sustainable Traveller...

  1. Considers the environmental impact of both personal and business travel
  2. Walks or cycles for travel of short distances
  3. Uses public transport instead of a car for longer trips
  4. Car pools with others when walking, cycling or using public transport is not possible
  5. Combines tasks requiring a car into one trip rather than doing numerous, short car trips
  6. Consolidates business travel with others – e.g. sharing taxis and fleet vehicles for common trips
  7. Uses the telephone or tele-conferencing as an alternative to business travel
  8. Offsets the emissions generated from car and air travel
  9. Consolidates international travel to avoid immediate return trips
  10. Explains to others the benefits of alternatives to car use
