Photography Competition 2011

Winner Announced!

Congratulations to Rebecca Lee from the Office of Environmental Programs for being the overall winner of the Sustainability Photography Competition 2011.

Taken on her iPhone, using an application that applies a number of software filters in order to make the images look as though they were taken with an antique film camera, her images reflect the daily aspects of Sustainability around Parkville Campus. Please find some examples of her work below.

This is what Rebecca had to say about her photos:

'My approach was to shoot absolutely everything I came across that represents sustainability on campus, often attempting to represent the subject in an abstract manner.

I was immediately drawn to the University's beautiful gardens. I found bike racks everywhere and noticed just how much staff and students ride to the University every day. I hadn't previously realised that some everyday objects were also helping the University to be sustainable. For example, the simple water fountain – we don't need to buy plastic bottles on campus!

I decided that using my iPhone with a photography application would be the best way to capture the images. I like the way the app captures the mundane and turns it into an interesting image. It ads filters and enhances the colours, often creating an abstract feel.

It was a pleasure to discover and capture sustainability on campus!'

The Sustainability Unit would like to thank every one who participated in the competition.
