Burnley Campus have now discontinued the sale of bottled water on campus, following the lead from Southbank Campus earlier in the year. In recent months, 6 new drinking water fountains have been installed to ensure that fresh water is readily available to all staff and students. Harry Troedel, Sustainability Manager, Implementation, said that this was a promising step in the move towards an entirely water bottle free Campus.

PhD student Rama Majumder said the students at Burnley Campus were very supportive of the initiative.

'The University of Melbourne is a world famous educational institution. Therefore, the University has a responsibility to keep all of its campuses clean and environmentally sound in the context of saving water, energy, money and overall to minimize greenhouse gas emissions. If the University takes this initiative then the other Universities, business organisations and even the general public will do the same'
