Green Impact for students
With Green Impact, students can make real, sustainable change for the future while gaining volunteer experience.
So you want to join Green Impact? That’s great! There’s a few different ways you can join, so let’s break it down for you.
Join as a team
Best suited to | Students in a club, society, college, student accommodation or students with a space of influence only, who want to reduce the environmental impact of their activities and events. |

How to sign up
- Sign up to the teams toolkit by filling in your details. Select your team from the drop down if joining an existing team or come up with a fun name for your new team.
- Start recruiting more team members from around your area and explore the toolkit together.
- As you explore the toolkit throughout the year, check in to the Participants Portal to see upcoming Green Impact events, view key dates, access resources, and get answers to frequently asked questions.

Join as an individual
Best suited to | Students who want to reduce their own environmental impact, but don’t have access to a permanent space of influence on campus, and aren’t part of a club or society. |

Be a Project Assistant
Project Assistants volunteer to help staff Green Impact teams to log actions throughout the toolkityear. No prior experience or specialised knowledge in sustainability is required, only an enthusiasm to learn and commitment to your team.
Applications for Project Assistants will open from May. Sign up to our mailing list to be notified of future volunteering opportunities.
Best suited to | Individual students who want to empower others to reduce their environmental impact on campus, learn more about the University, and work with staff teams to help them achieve their sustainability goals. |

Dates | Applications are open from May 1 to May 15 2024. Students will be notified of the status of their application on Friday May 17 with invites sent for the in-person training on May 22. |

Expectations of Project Assistants:
- Encourage, motivate and be a leader in their assigned Green Impact team in implementing sustainability actions in its department or area of work.
- Attend training and support sessions to learn environmental management and behaviour change techniques in the workplace.
- Meet regularly with your assigned Green Impact team during the Winter Break.
- Communicate with the Sustainability Team on the progress of your Green Impact team.
Be a Student Auditor
Students can also volunteer to conduct an environmental audit of sustainability actions logged by Green Impact teams after the close of the program. No prior experience is required and you will be trained in auditing processes prior to the auditing day.
Best suited to | Individual students who want to volunteer with Green Impact but can’t commit for the full year, or have found out about the program later in the year. |

Expectations of Student Auditors:
- Attend training to learn how to conduct an environmental audit.
- Work with other Student Auditors to audit 1–2 Green Impact team's actions within one day.
